Rare Limited Edition 'GOLDCREST' from ALBANY FINE CHINA Ltd (Worcester) This was modelled by David Lovegrove who was one of the trio who originally formed the company (see below) The Albany China Company was formed by David Palmer, Bill Nichols and David Lovegrove in Worcester- the Lowesmore area- in 1974. All previously worked at Royal Worcester Porcelain. Unfortunately the factory closed in 2005 as the time and effort that went into making the pieces was uneconomical and eventually they couldn't compete with the cheaper resin models which of course were no where near the quality and fineness of Albany. This is a hard to find model of a Goldcrest sitting on a branch surrounded by porcelain flowers. The leaves & stems are solid Silver and the base is marble The Silver Hallmark confirms that it was made in 1977 The detail is fabulous. On very close inspection with an eye glass there are a couple of tiny nibbles to one petal and I think the very end of one petal is missing as it's not as round as the others. I've tried to photograph this but please bear in mind that the photos are very close up. I didn't actually see the damage until I got the magnifying glass on them! Nothing detracts from the beauty of the piece and I doubt that anyone looking at it would actually notice them, but I've mentioned them for accuracy. It measures read more
