Albert Gallatin, clipped signature, mounted onto a slightly larger sheet.The extraordinary Gallatin (1761-1849) was a U.S. Senator, Congressman, and the longest serving U.S. Secretary of the Treasury (1801-1814, appointed by Thomas Jefferson.) In later life, Gallatin served as an ambassador to France and Great Britain, was a founder of New York University, studied Native American languages and culture, and was the founder of the American Ethnological Society.About 1.25" x 3.75" mounted onto a 5" x 5.5" sheet.
