This incredible collectible has likely NEVER been seen by any of you. It has been in my personal collection for about 10 years, and to the best of my knowledge it is ONE OF A KIND...the ONLY copy of these abandoned project that exists! In 1999, the Warner Brothers Studio Stores conceived the project seen here: THE ALEX ROSS SKETCHBOOK. It was intended to be so much more than that. It is presented in a luxurious portfolio case that measures 18.5 x 15. It has a name tag around the handle showing that it is owned by ALEX ROSS. The idea behind this project was to create a collectible that looked like an ACTUAL portfolio of ORIGINAL pencil drawings. There are two main collectible contents inside this portfolio case. The first is a "SKETCHBOOK" that is a tablet of paper measuring 12 x 18. It has a coarse board cover (like a fine sketchbook would normally have). Inside this sketchbooks are fine art giclee prints (SIX in total). Again, the idea was to make this collectible look like an ACTUAL sketchbook that Alex Ross would show art directors at DC Comics. The giclee prints have been produced on the heaviest paper (they are almost as thick as art boards). They are even still in the ring binding so I'm not sure how they produced such an intricate item! It appears it wasn't going to be cost effective to produce. The first giclee is "Wonder Woman: War", which was Alex's original cover idea and name for the Wonder Woman: Spirit if Truth tabloid release. The second giclee features the Kingdom Come version of SUPERMAN and smaller sketches around it. The third giclee showcases the Kingdom Come version of BATMAN (various head shots). The fourth giclee is "Batman: Fear", the original concept drawing that became the cover for the Batman: War On Crime tabloid release. The 5th giclee is the Kingdom Come version of GREEN LANTERN, and the 6th and final giclee in this sketchbook is two full body shots of the Kingdom Come version of BATMAN in his armor. These giclees are finely printed (as the WB Stores were known for the quality of product they produced) and these ALL look like ORIGINAL PENCIL DRAWINGS. There is also a thinner sketchbook with lighter paper that contains more sketches. This sketchpad measures 11 x 17.5 and contains a few more prints, including a giclee of Kingdom Come Batman headshots and another shot of the Kingdom Come Green Lantern. I don't know if they intended to use BOTH versions in the official release...I surmise that they were presented in this way so they could decide if they wanted to go with the thinner sketchbook option or the thicker (more durable, substantial, higher quality) version. I even have the COA that was going to be used for this proposed project that was NEVER PRODUCED.When I created Heroic Fine Art Gallery I was determined to be the foremost authority on many artists, but ALEX ROSS in particular. I made it my business and personal mission to know EVERYTHING I could about what was released, how many were released, etc. I even began amassing a collection of ORIGINAL pencil drawings and painted art. When this particular item was presented to me it had amazing provenance but I also took it to ALEX ROSS himself and discussed it with him at length. Not only is this incredible prototype AUTHENTIC, but there are several ORIGINAL SIGNATURES I obtained from Mr. Ross to further enhance the value of this amazing collection. Alex has signed: the Certificate of Authenticity; the COVER of the thinner Sketchbook prototype; the COVER of the heavier, higher quality Sketchbook prototype; the Wonder Woman: War giclee, and the Batman: Fear giclee. WOW. That is FIVE ORIGINAL signatures by Mr. Ross. There are also TWO ORIGINAL DRAWINGS that he contributed to this collection. He was kind enough to do them and in all my experiences with Mr. Ross he has been extremely generous and kind to me as I was trying to build my business.
