Alfred Meakin Large Tea Leaf Ironstone Apple Bowl on Pedestal, 10 1/2” Dia., 1880s Description Welcome to this listing. We are extremely pleased to offer this large, 10 ½” diameter, 4 ½” tall tea leaf ironstone scalloped apple bowl on short pedestal manufactured by the English firm of Alfred Meakin. The pedestal foot is 5 1/8” in diameter and 1 ½” tall. The black Royal Arms mark on the bottom of the apple bowl reads “Royal Ironstone China, Alfred Meakin, England.” This mark is circa 1880s. Apple bowls are extremely difficult to obtain. This marvelous apple bowl has a gleaming white glaze and bright and shiny copper lustre banding. The tea leaf is a nice coordinating shade of brown. This apple bowl is free of chips, cracks, flakes, hairlines, overall discoloration, and restoration. Several of the scalloped rim edges have minor glaze rubs (worn glaze). The interior center of the bowl has an extremely light yellow trace of discoloration. Crazing, which is common to ironstone, is present. This wonderful apple would make a great addition to any tea leaf collection. It would be perfect to serve small salads, vegetables, or snacks such as pretzels or chips.
