Keen, Provost Marshal.Color: single-sided ink on paper, Condition: Excellent condition with some ink smudges. Size: 5 3/4" x 8". Provenance: Provenance: Property of a direct descendent of Gen. William Skeen (1818-1893), of Alleghany Co., VA. Catalog Notes: Catalogue Note: William Skeen was a prominent lawyer in Covington, Alleghany Co., VA during the 19th century. He served as Commonwealth Attorney of the county and Provost-Marshal during the Civil War. Skeen served on several important boards and in other public capacities. Virginia reconstruction governor Gilbert C. Walker appointed Skeen brigadier-general of the State militia in 1872.
