This is a beautifully detailed sauce tureen and underplate in the flow blue polychrome pattern Alma by Wood & Brownfield. The pattern dates to 1848. Lots of detail, a dark flow blue, almost a mulberry, transferware pattern was used to create the detail in the design. Multiple colors used in the flowers and band patterns, with a predominant light green. The stoneware itself has a shaped edge with deliberate indents within the shape and embossing that show off the design. A truly well done polychrome, transferware pattern.The polychrome and gold accents show wear, the foot of the sauce tureen has stabilized cracks, some stained grazing and an underglaze flaw on the lid near the ladle hole. This is a usable piece.The underplate measures 9" x 7 1/2", the tureen is 7 1/2" in diameter x 6 1/2" tall.
