Alps - Television Spaceman Robot Japan with Original Box.The previous owner of this robot ( Barry, from the UK ) contacted me some months agoo directly. He found this robot on the attic. it was his childhood robot so he was the first owner. He could not get the robot to work and wanted to sell it. he told me the robot was complete with original box and because I like these kind of finds the most I decided to buy the robot from barry. When the robot arrived the chain of the antenna was broken ( easy fix, just attach it again :) and when I put in batteries, the light worked but the robot was not working and Barry told me this allready. As always with these untouched finds, the remedy is easy... patience !! insert 2 fresh batteries, and GENTLY shake the robot, forward, backward, upside down... but all gently... the robot was not in motion for more than maybe 25 years so the engine is just stuck, like most of these toys do when they are forgotten.Later that evening the robot, as expected came to life, had some problems starting up ( its just an old XT computer with a 20 HD harddrive, loading 64 kb of memory :) but worked fine after a few minutes of running time and was able to set his first footsteps again after beeing put away for 25 years + ( I think its more :) in his box. Its just as if child is born :-), Oh I love this hobby !This robot has 2 "brothers" ( more about them later :-) and is one of my personal favorites. The design and action are all a robot of the sixties should have, strongly build to survive many hours of playfun. The actions are great: the robot walks, has spinning eyes, a colorfull mouthsection and in his chest there is a real spacemovie visable, wow !!A very nice detail is the ON/OFF switch. The iron antenna, which is also very nice crafted must be inserted in his head to get the robot going. This robot is, as far as my information is correct, build in 3 versions. This ( with the Iron antenna and small tv-screen ) is the oldest version. Alps build a second version with a red plastic antenna and a slightly bigger tv-screen and plastic legs, a few years later. and there was build a third version for cragstan in red, not as a robot but as an astronaut, called Gragstans Great Astronaut. These robots used a pretty complicated technique to drive the eyes, walking and the moving spacescene in the "television". Therefore only look for fully operational examples because these robots are hard to repair.This first Television Spaceman ( or robot :-) is the first in the series and was build in 1961 by Alps in Japan. The condition of this spaceman is near mint. The robot is all original and has hardly been played with and is in perfect condition,no cracks, no rust no dings or scratches mentionalbe. All the actions and lights work perfectly, really a great find !! The spaceman comes in its original box. The condition of the box is excellent and a tear with some clear tape remains at one of the sidepanels is keeping the box from beeing graded near mint. the colors of the artwork on the box are very bright and I tell this because mostly the color are faded away with these boxes.Alps Television Spaceman of the first generation is hard to find in this near mint condition with excellent original box ( + both the original inserts ! ) and in full working order. Very scarce in rare in this condition !!I will sell this robot in a real auction with moderate reserve price that reflects the robots value. Plz dont make any mistake here..You will have a hell of a job to ever find a nicer example of this legend !!
