This is a rare Stanley No 101 size Knapp aluminium Block Plane. Stanley experimented with Aluminum planes from 1925 to 1935, and found their 25% higher cost during the Great Depression to be their demise. But other firms copied the Stanley No 101 mold and produced planes of that era, with aluminium planes the most rare. This plane is 3 1/2 inches long and has a 1 inch wide cutter. The aluminium plane body is in very nice conditon, the cutter is shiny clean and sharp, and the plane bottom is very smooth for serious use. The Knapp name is cast on the heel of the plane . The No 101 Block Plane was made for small craftsman work, and was very handy for working in restricted areas or on small projects such as making musical instruments. This plane came from a special collection of Stanely 101 and similar small planes that I was lucky to find. I want it to go to a true woodworker who will put it to the good use that it was made for or a serious plane collector.
