You are admiring a fantastic specimen from my personal collection, a Tridacna squamosa ( Lamarck, 1819 ) measuring 96.4mm or just under 4" (each valve)...incredible form & an incredible color pattern is displayed . This beauty is a member of the very popular but obscure Tridacnidae family which includes all "Giant Clams"...they inhabit shallow/tropical waters and live inbedded in coral or rocky substrate hinge down. They are also classified as bi-valves (2 sides connected by a hinge)...very difficult to acquire today which makes it an excellent compliment in any collection. Thank you for visiting our store this evening...and an excellent choice, too. ***Also known as a Ruffled Clam or Fluted Clam because of their upturned scales resemble "ruffles"!!
