This is a really uncommon vintage American Flyer train item- a # 14 ELECTRONIC RECTIFORMER .It is a Flyer transformer that actually has a rectifer vacuum tube mounted right through the top of the case. I believe that the theory was the unit would provide much "cleaner" dc output voltage than their regular transformers. I have never actually seen one of these before! It is from a train estate sale and is being offered as purchased- it has NOT been track tested in any way - I can tell you that it has been plugged in and the tube DOES light up. SUPER piece! Marked "150 Watts" and "Developed At The Gilbert Hall Of Science" on the top-plate.
