Here is a very clean used American Flyer 21812 (812) Baldwin Switcher which would be good for the shelf or good to upgrade another lesser 21812. Gilbert issued these engines in 1959 and 1960 the major difference was that in 1960 the molded black plastic horizontal step extensions where omitted as a result of a mold change and probably consumer complaints as to the easy breakage of the exrensions.( I note that that the 1960 version of the RED 21813 M&Stl Baldwin also omitted the step extensions.) This 21812 comes from my own collection. It has been used and is not 100% perfect but a very clean overall example...refer to the many photos. I believe that the often broken or missing plastic horn on this engine is original Gilbert issue. I note that the inside of the shell does carry a faint stamping of "2 60" suggesting a February 1960 date of manufacture. The orange paint shows overall excellent paint retention without touchups. There are a few minute marks on the unpainted black plastic shell areas but these are all very minute and difficult to see without close visual inspection.The lettering is basically clean and crisp overall except for a minor smudge at the top of the "S" in TEXAS on one side. I note that there appears to be a very hard to see glue smudge in this area which you really can't see on normal display...you have to tilt read more
