You are bidding on a pair of American Flyer 720A Remote Control Switches made from 1950 to 1956. Rails are very clean. Everything works, including 2-train operation. As the pictures show, all bulbs and the red and green indicators work. The left hand switch has a few insignificant scratches in the plastic body; I see no rust. It is near C-7. The plastic body of the right hand switch shows its age and there is a patch of rust underneath where you can't see it. It is near C-6. It comes in its original box which has all inserts. It shows moderate edge wear, a faded dealer price sticker, and no notations. Overall, the set rates C-6 (Very Good) condition under the TCA guidelines. The 2012 TM Price Guide lists a pair of these switches at $ 54 .00 in C-7 condition . Between the two branches of each switch, there is a slide switchlabeled "Reg. Oper.” (Regular Operation) at one end and “2 train Oper." 2-train Operation) at the other. It's a very useful thing, but rather confusing, and the Gilbert instruction manuals give only a superficial explanation. For an additional $1.25, I'll enclose a printed copy of “ Bob's Top Tips #2: Gilbert Switches - Regular Operation and 2-Train Operation.” It explains exactly what the slide switch does and provides some helpful suggestions on using it to make your railroad layout more realistic and interesting.
