Up for auction today is the American Flyer #806 Northern engine and its specific tender. This 4-8-4 locomotive and tender combination are listed in the Gilbert catalog as #568 which is made up of the #566 engine and the #567 tender. The numbering system for these 1939 models was even more confusing when the #806 was used as the engine cab number. T is an excellent chart in Greenberg's guide to prewar O gauge trains found on page 217 which will explain the different numbers. The engine is in very good condition and runs great. This version is equipped with a spur gear drive and remote direction control (RDC) system. The RDC system was tested by inserting a pin into the small opening above the reverse unit and the engine changed direction smoothly. The engine and tender both have the original paint. The cab numbers and logos have faded over the years but they are readable. The engine number boards are original. The pony truck is aftermarket and has new wheels. I've included the original pony truck in the auction. The trailing truck has one wheel with metal fatigue and it should be replaced. The main driving wheels are all in good condition. The valve gear, side rods and hand rails are all clean and rust free. The engine grades C-6. The #567 tender is the Union Pacific high speed tender. It has six wheel trucks and is fitted with
