Offered for your consideration is an American Flyer O Gauge 2-4-4 Engine with a 421 Tender . The engine itself has no identifying number, but I believe it to be the # 424 locomotive made in 1939. It appears to be the only 2-4-4 locomotive listed in David Doyle's Standard Catalog of American Flyer Trains. The tender is not marked with any numbers either, however since it came in the pictured box, and said box is stamped "421 Tender", I'm assuming that's correct. This engine and tender I consider to be in excellent shape. T are very few scratches or marks in the paint. The paint looks to be original and the lettering is sharp. All ladders, grab handles, sand domes, etc appear to be present. I can see no real oxidation issues. The engine runs like a scared rabbit, and the e-unit does cycle but not as smoothly as I would like. It will probably need a cleaning and servicing. The only issue I can see is the trailing trucks / wheels will need to be replaced as they are deteriorating. The headlight does light. The engine box is a brick with all flaps present. One end is still factory sealed. The tender box is in fine shape with all flaps present. (The stamped flap is missing the little lip that fits into the box to keep the flap closed).
