AMERICAN FLYER pre-war 4-4-2 steam locomotive, one of the series somewhere around 4692. There are several model numbers fairly close and fairly similar and I am not sure which one this is. The locomotive is MINUS the trailing truck so that plus the rusty condition of the 4663 tender trucks makes it a restoration special. The loco weighs a ton. It runs on Standard Gauge Track which is the same as LGB but of course AF prewar runs on three rail track for AC. There is a section of the side rod missing on both sides of the engine between the 1 and 2 drivers. Restoration special, I said. The pony wheels have metal fatigue but so far are all in one piece and no chunks missing. There is a small missing piece at the top, front of the smokebox. Is it a catch to keep the smokebox door closed? There is brass and/or copper piping with some paint chipped off. More pictures are posted now. When I applied AC current and helped the drivers turn with my thumb, the motor would turn them over. It isn't smooth yet , but some lubrication would probably do the trick. I suspect it has been decades since this loco was fired up. I did notice that one of the roller electrical pickups on the bottom is missing - the other one works.
