American Nickel Silver Art Nouveau cigarette case by W & H Co in good condition for its age Neat floral design around the edge of the front with finely lined bars across the centre In the centre panel is a fine Italic "M" Oval shape button catch works perfectly,hinge is smooth and springs open well as does the pop-up centre cigarette holder On the inside lip is a small heart inside this is "W & H Co" on either side of this is "Nickel Silver" To the other side of the lip is "US Pats Mar 30.15 Feb 1.16" Engraved across the left hand inside panel is "SS SAN FELIX 1943-1944" This was an oil tanker (13,037 tons) of The Eagle Oil and Shipping Co and was launched by Armstrong Whitworth in 1921.She was struck by torpedo en route from The Clyde to Curacao,which left a 70 foot gash in her side.With the resolution of her crew she continued her journey of several hundred miles to Newfoundland and survived the war.
