One of the more collectable fossil fish from S.W. Wyoming is the ancient Pirhana relative, Phareodus encaustus . This specimen has been preserved with a layer shift across the stone and within the body of the fish itself. This represents a subtle tectonic event that caused the soft calcium carbonate to move in a verticle direction causing a shift in the elevation of the layer the fish was preserved upon. The preservation of the Phareodus is very detailed with most of the needle-like teeth in the mouth visible. The Phareodus has no restoration on it. The two Knightia eocaena are related to modern Herrings with one being inlaid into the original stone. The Pirhana relative measures 7 3/4 inches. The Knightia measure 4 and 3 inches respectively. Overall measurments of the matrix are 17 x 22 inches irregular. The stone has been backed with plywood and comes with a French cleat system for hanging on the wall. Shipping costs are actual. Mural weight is 20 lbs. NO RESERVE PayPal Preferred!
