Ancient Roman Bronze Follis Coin of Emperor Constantine the Great - 307 AD A beautiful, well preserved ancient Roman bronze follis minted under the first Christian Emperor, Constantine the Great ( Flavius Valerius Aurelius Constantinus Augustus) . S truck 307 - 337 AD at the ancient mint of Trier, modern day west Germany. The obverse with a superb portrait of Constantine. The Emperor is shown wearing laurel wreath and with cuirassed bust. The legend reading:IMP[erator] CONSTANTINVS P[ivs] F[elix] AVG[vstvs]"Emperor Constantinus, Dutiful and Wise Augustus"The reverse with the sun god Sol shown standing left raising right hand and holding globe in left. The legend reading:SOLI INVICTO COMITI "To Sol, my Invincible Companion"Constantine the Great:Flavius Valerius Aurelius Constantinus, or Constantine the Great, reigned from 307 - 337 AD. He is one of the most important rulers in Roman, indeed world history. He was the first Christian Emperor of Rome, reversing earlier persecutory laws and passing the famous Edict of Milan, which allowed for religious tolerance throughout the Empire.
