Specimen Rough From "Andamooka" Australia Classification: Origin: Andamooka Australia Type: Solid Opal Stones Weight: 4,400 Carats Measures: see ruler in photo's for size guide Treatment: Andamooka Opal Matrix Stone, is a recognized opal type, not to be confused with other opal matrixes. It is a unique rare opal stone that can be treated. e.g. when pulled from mother earth this opal type is a light base color, it already has the play of colors and fire within. It is often treated as this opal is to enhance the visibility of the colors. This is done by cooking the opal stone in sugar and then carbonizing the sugar, which turns the sugar black - thus giving the stone a dark or black color base backgound. Comments: Ultra Rare Andamooka Black Opal Matrix Parcel Rough, Cut Rough, & Tumbled Rough, Rubs. Some of the stones still have some opal dirt attached. This is a mixed grade parcel, stones have some visible fractures, pit marks & inclusions. You will still find some nice color to cut out amongst this huge lot. About 90% of the stones are the hard matrix type (Andamooka Black Opal Matrix), there's also a few Andamooka Rainbow Opal Matrix (aka: concrete / sandstone opal matrix).
