This is the 6" high ANRI Woodcarving taken from the art of Spanish artist Juan Ferrandiz which is entitled "Leading the Way", the second edition in the Limited Boy and Girl of the Year introduced in 1977. The item number is 651410 and the edition size was only 1500 pieces world-wide. The issue price in 1977 was only $100.00 and secondary market values are well into $350 - $450 and up. This woodcarving is not numbered, but is a Master Model with the marking of "M". The Master Models were used as the advance samples for photography and sales showrooms and t were only about 20 "M" woodcarvings marked as such. Please take a look at the photo of the backstamp w you will see the marking incised into the wooden base. You'll also see the old ANRI trademark paper sticker. The woodcarving is in perfect condition. The base of the figurine is 2 1/2 " by 3". "Leading the Way" portrays a young girl holding a lantern in her right hand and walking with a lamb at her left side. The light of the lantern is leading the way for them. The figurine is hand-painted in oil paints in muted colors of peach, green, and yellow. The painting detail of "Leading the Way"is magnificent - down to the designs on her apron and the delicate paint strokes of the girl's eyelashes - such delicate hand painted detail that only the artists at ANRI can achieve.
