ANTAL NEOGRADY (Listed Hungarian 1861-1942). Turn of the century original oil painting of Two Women in a Cart crossing the River, 9-1/2" x 14-3/4" oil on panel (framed size: 14-1/2" x 20") signed lower right. As is condition - see condition report. No Reserve! Biography from the Archives of askARTAntal Neogrady Hungarian 1861-1942An artist of fine sentiment and imagination, Neogrady displayed a rare gift forinvesting his subjects with his own personal touch.Born in Galsa, Hungary, he passed through the Budapest Academy beforecontinuing his art education in Munich. There, at the Academy of Art, he studiedunder Gabriel von Hackl, a genre painter, and Alex von Wagner, also a Hungarian,who painted historical genre and landscapes. Wagner, only twenty eight when hebecame a Professor, was able to instill in his pupil a directness of conception, asimpleness of subject that made his works easily understood.Neogrady eventually returned to Budapest as a painter and illustrator. Later he wasappointed Professor of Watercolor Studies at the Budapest Academy, a post he heldfrom 1893 until 1931.Although there appears to be only one example of critical consideration of his work, itwas an appreciative one.
