This is the front relief sculpture of the artwork the Great Spirit. This artwork was recovered after a robbery of a major art collection in Las Vegas. It is guaranteed authentic and comes with a COA and the authenticity can also be verified with the Quinn Foundation. I have greatly discounted this artwork as it is now a stand alone piece and not part of a complete collection. His father, Francisco Quinn, was half Irish. His mother was a Mexican girl of Aztec ancestry, named Manuela, who Francisco met while he was fighting for revolutionary leader Pancho Villa. To escape the poverty of Mexico, the family, including Anthony moved to the U.S. and eventually a poor section of Los Angeles. Anthony was an artist from the start. At the age of 11, he won a statewide, California competition as a sculptor. He loved to draw, paint, sculpt and carve and earned dollars drawing portraits of movie stars at the Zelig Studios, where his father had obtained a job as a cameraman. His client list included Douglas Fairbanks and Rudolph Valentino. While only a teenager, he won another competition in architecture, earning him the opportunity to study with famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright, who encouraged him to take speech lessons, and therein, an acting career and fate would intercede. Despite his years of success as a distinguished actor, his passion remained in his art. Every spare moment he had, between takes on location and between films, was spent drawing, painting and sculpting. Some of his most outstanding sculpture was created while working on several films in the deserts of Africa in the 70’s and 80’s. Told once by a jealous artist, that his work would only sell because of his name, he signed his early work with his mother’s maiden name, Oaxaca. His first show, with only this identifying mark, was a sell-out. Years later, when he no longer had anything to prove, another “first showing” under his own name, sold $2 million in just one night. His work, like other modern masters, is powerfully free of conventional realism. While he was motivated to paint and draw self-portraits, long before his fame. He produced works of outstanding oil, pencil, and sculpture that revealed his self identity as a native Mexican in a foreign land, as a man of unbridled passion, the love of children, the privilege of fatherhood, and of his strong identity with his ancestral people. Working until just days before his death, his wife Katherine found him outside the house, in his slippers working determinedly to finish a sculpture, in the early morning cold. His home remains filled with art he loved, both his own and the works of others. The unfinished pieces, scattered throughout the half dozen studios he maintained in his Rhode Island home, reflect his undying passion to create, express and honor the beauty he saw so differently from others. His work is artistically masterful and uncompromising. A man of his era and heritage, he expressed understanding of the works of cubism and hieroglyphics. And it is in these works, that his true genius is revealed. He often wondered what his art would have been like, had he never left his native land since his identification with the art of the indigenous population was so strong. His natural skills could take him wherever his heart would lead him and it kept leading him back to the interpretive style of a visionary, unrestricted by commercialism.
