ANTIQUE 10K GOLD ENAMEL CORAL BLACKAMOOR STICKPIN This antique Blackamoor 10K gold enamel coral stickpin is a unique find. The blackamoor is depicted with a headdress accented by a jewel and gold leaf. It is always a man with white racial features but carved from ebony, enameled or painted black in order to contrast the embellishments bright colors. These depictions are of only the head or a bust facing the viewer. T is some enamel loss on the white portions on each side of the headdress. The headdress is composed of a dark coral cabochon, a jewel (possibly garnet but we are not sure) on the front on the headdress and a crescent moon and star motif on the top of the headdress. The pin is unmarked and measures 2 7/16âe in length with the head measuring 11/16âe in length and 3/8âe at its widest point. The quality of the gold was tested using nitric acid. These figures appear in antique Venetian jewelry such as brooches, cuff links, earrings and bracelets. T are contemporary craftsmen who make individual pieces, but it is rare because of the modern issues of depicting these individuals as exotic and decorative. *PLEASE SEE OUR OTHER STICKPINS CURRENTLY UP FOR AUCTION.
