ANTIQUE 1786 GEORGIAN STERLING SILVER LARGE SNUFF BOX - PUB/BAR SCENE Welcome to our auction! For bids today we have a truely gorgeous piece of antique silver from our own personal collection. Assayed in London in 1786 this large (9cm long by 7cm wide and 3cm deep) snuff box has a quality and detail which speaks for itself. The makers mark is "TB" which has been lost to the mists of time however even the clean, plain sides radiate high class and that's without looking at the beautifully embossed lid! That lid shows a pub scene with men smoking, drinking and having a good time. The characters are embossed upon the silver while other details such as the floor tiles are engraved - both going together to give a 3D effect. Obviously over the past 228 years this box has picked up some imperfections. These run to a loss of detailing to the top where it has been polished, general light marks/scratches (which are to be expected) and some discolouration to the base and interior edges. These things in no way detract from the overall joy of this piece and in fact give it that antique feel. We're only selling this piece on as it is no longer on display and it seems such a shame to have a stunner like this hidden away. Any questions? Please ask!
