Antique 1850's - Made in France Clichy Miniature Scramble PaperweightThis is Pre-Owned and is in fair condition. You can see scratches/wear on the top consistent with use and age, but does that matter for collectibles??? I guess not :-)This is one of a kind. The paperweight has partial canes in different bright colors that looks amazing and pops out of the glass. You can see the pattern including stars and rose cane and how beautiful they look. Some background: The glass factory Cristallerie de Clichy was founded under another name at Billancourt in 1837 and moved to Clichy, then a Paris suburb, two years later. By 1847, Clichy's paperweights were in staunch competition with Saint-Louis and Baccarat. No Clichy paperweights are known to have been created after 1870 when they were supposedly taken over by Sèvres.Nice line that I came through in my research:"What do President Clinton, King Farouk, Eva Peron, Colette and Truman Capote all have in common? asked the New York Times in 1998."They all collected glass paperweights. And why not?"This measures approx. 1.5" tall and 2 1/4" diameter and weighs .47 lb.
