Antique 1850's Victorian "Quack Medicine" Electric Shock Therapy Magneto Machine for Nervous Diseases. Made by W. Cooke Optical & Mathematical Instrument Maker Keighley. Comes with a book about Electropathic therapy. Dated 1896 By S.M. Wells. The maching itself is in good condition for its age and looks to be complete. A bit about the machine: This electric shock machine is an extraordinary piece of medical apparatus from the nineteenth-century. It is entitled “Newly Invented Improved Magneto-Electric Machine for Nervous Diseases”. The unit comprises a brass handle, brass wheels, a large magnet, two coils of wire, and two brass tubes attached to cables through which the current flows, all housed in a polished wooden walnut case. On the underside of the lid is the original label for the machine, which carries instructions for use, and amusing illustrations of the machine in use. The case measures 9 1/2" x 4 1/2" x 4".
