For sale is an antique Diary. The cover says 1857 but it seems to run from 1857 into the 1860s, especially the early 1860s. Most dates seem like 1860-1862 or so. So it appears that this diary belonged to a clergyman. Not sure if he was a priest or preacher or what have you but it is clear that he is a religious leader of a church. There are what seems like notes for sermons, references to preaching engagements, births and baptisms, and all that sort of thing. There are loads of names of people. There are also references to money owed, loaned, donated, spent, etc. The first part of the diary is more like typical diary writings, like he talks about being sick, seeing a doctor, heavy snowfall, preaching at different places, etc, etc. Then the diary gets more ledger/record keeping like with the stuff mentioned earlier. There are also many pages in the middle that are empty. It seems like the person was from New Jersey but the name of the Village on the front inside cover (pic #3) is too hard for me to decipher. I did see a reference to South Amboy, NJ and I think also Monmouth County. The diary is more pocket-like measuring roughly 5" by 3". It is in fair shape with a good deal of general wear, as pictured. Not sure what else to say. Buyer pays shipping fee of $4.95. Paypal accepted. PA residents add 6% sales tax.
