Antique RARE 1858 DOULTON LAMBETH SPECIAL HIGHLAND WHISKY 1-handle Jug 8"H. Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.Antique RARE 1858 Doulton Lambeth SPECIAL HIGHLAND WHISKY 1-Handle Stoneware Jug. Circa: 1858 - 1886. Small chip on bottom.The light brown jug has a darker brown neck with horizontal lines at mid-section and neck base. There is an applied handle and an in-relief black ship on the front. SPECIAL is embossed in white letters over the ship, and beneath are the words HIGHLAND WHISKEY -- also embossed in white. Hallmarks include impressed DOULTON LAMBETH, dating the jug to 1858 (and as late as 1886 according to the impressed number 4818). Impressed RdNo 4818. Impressed b, b within square, another letter (?) and 3 impressed squares.Note: This jug was among the first SPECIAL HIGHLAND WHISKY jugs created, as shown by not only the early Doulton Lambeth hallmark, but also the fact that the embossed white letters stand alone and not within a white flag that is typical of later jugs.Royal Doulton traces its ancestry back to the Jones, Watts & Doulton founded in Lambeth, South London, in 1815.
