ANTIQUE ca 1875 ROSS LONDON TELESCOPE MADE OF BRASS, NICKEL, AND LEATHER. The serial number -- 24,593 -- dates the telescope to the 1870s. As is often the case, the original leather has shrunk at bit at each end. The telescope appears to me to work -- although I am not an expert. The lettering shows that Ross made this telescope for a company in Portsmouth, England -- and the previous owner's name (Alion?) is inscribed onto the instrument. A fine Victorian telescope that displays beautifully.
