This beautiful example of bleu de four was manufactured and decorated by the Limoges firm of Charles Field Haviland and is marked with the green whiteware mark used by the company ca. 1881-1900. During this period, the company was associated with another Limoges firm, Gerard, Dufraisseix and Morel and their initials "GDM" also appear in the whiteware mark. The plate also has the blue double circle decorating mark of "Ch Field Haviland Limoges" used by the company ca. 1859-1881. The combination of the two marks enables the year of manufacture to be narrowed down to 1881. The whiteware blank has a scalloped rim with a footed base and is made of the very translucent hard paste porcelain that the Limoges factories were famous for producing.
