Offered for bids is the first in a collection of different types of African Executions Swords as identified by Tribal Arms Monographs Vol 1, Execution Knives and Derivatives, Brussels 1997. I have been collecting for a long timeand purchased all my items from reputable sources during the 1970's This is an example of one of the most famous types of African sword. It is a Ngulu or Ngala executioners sword from the Congo , dating to about 1890. Per the book Tribal Arms and Monographs this style of Ngala Execution Sword was used by the Lobala, Ngbaka and Bondjo tribes of Congo. It is 23.5 inches in total length, the blade is 18.5 inches, the top is 8.5 inches wide and the blade body is 3.75 inches at the widest point, with a very elaborately forged blade, typical scallops which identifies it as a Ngala. Comes with custom steel base, ready for display. The back is shaped with large scallops, thickened at their terminals and decorated to be placed on the shoulder when carried in the jungle as the knife is heavy. Condition is as shown and consistent with age, well patinated and darkened bladse which is expected from African swords of the 1890's. The sword was used in decapitation's as described in Tribal Arms and Monographs and PIC included.
