A superb George iv 18ct gold English fusee and chain pocket watch byEdward Ellicott 1821.Beautiful buttery yellow gold 18ct Case and dial fully marked with a nice clear set of Londonmarks 1821-22 and produced by Richard Ball and Gideon Macaire, of Clerkenwell. They were case makers of the highest order, producing for the likes of Barraud, Viner, and Gout. The movement being by Edward Ellicott who was the last in the famous watchmaking line of Ellicott’s that started with renowned watchmaker John Ellicott (1706 – 1772). John Ellicotts watches were prized by Royalty and he was Royal appointed watchmaker to King George III. The gilt Movement being of fusee and chain type and marked Ellicott - London, with serial no. 9973. The engraved balance cock having a good sized diamond end stone. The superb engine turned dial being solid 18ct gold and with applied gold roman markers. The dial bears the same case makers mark and 18ct assay mark to reverse, along with some scratched inscriptions. The blued steel poire hands contrast nicely against the gold dial. The inner caseback has a later memorial inscription, with the touching words “A.F. Brissenden, in memory of his Mother Sept 27th 1876.” The Watch is 43mm in diameter and the whole ensemble (including chain) weighs in at a respectable 65gm.
