This antique buckle features two snakes intertwined necks-to-tails. The buckle appears to be sand cast with hand engraved details on the front and is made of a white metal, probably a nickel-silver alloy with no guaranteed content. The hardware appears to be brass or a similar metal and tool marks from manufacture are evident. The hardware is all present and both articulated pieces swing all the way in both directions.This larger sized buckle measures 2 7/8" from top to bottom by 2 ¾" wide. The inside opening measures 2 1/8" vertically by 1" horizontally at the narrow middle. The buckle weighs 79.6 grams.Nice condition for the age with wear and tarnish as shown.
