Rare 18th century or early 19th century Salt container.Cow or possibly Buffalo horn.Very nicely carved wooden plug which is attached with wooden pins.This salt horn shows excellent patina and a very nice overall surface.The original stopper is missing but was probably made from cork as noted in Madison Grants book Powder Horns and Their Architecture pages 120- 122.T is still salt residue in the carving of the wood butt cap.Salt horns are very difficult to find,and fewer show up as do powder horns of the same era.This example measures approx 7" long.Buyer pays shipping/insurance cost.NO RESERVE PayPal,Money Order/Cashiers Check Payment within 5 days after contact with winning bidder.
