Antique 1890s to 1900s Japanese 1st Place Medal ITEM: This is another rare antique Japanese medal from my own collection which I am now selling. The front of this medal shows a chrysanthemum towards the bottom and the writing reads SHOU (Award), NISHIOKITAMAGUN YAKUSHO (West Okitama Country Government Office). The back reads ITTOU (First Place). The medal is in very good condition, only needs a cleaning. The ribbon is good, only a bit dirty. Should look much better after a soak in warm soapy water. The case reminds me of the Aihara Company of Tokyo which made excellent medals (see my other auctions for examples of their work). This measures 65 mm from top of ribbon to the bottom. The area that this medal was made for is in Yamagata Prefecture ( /wiki/Yamagata_Prefecture ). See my other auctions, many collectors, antique shops, movie prop houses and auction-related companies from all over the world source us for unique Japanese antiques.
