Being offered for your consideration, with NO RESERVE , is this wonderful Antique Victorian Circa 1905 Theodore Haviland French Limoges Porcelain Hand Painted Oyster Plate. The Limoges region of France is located two hundred miles south of the city of Paris. This area has been a leading producer of outstanding porcelain objects for many years due to the fact that the local soils are rich in feldspar and kaolin, two minerals necessary for hard paste porcelain production. in the United States oysters have been enjoyed by diners for many years; history tell us that Southern chefs created recipes for "mock oysters" when shortages of the shell fish occurred during the Civil War.This oyster plate carries the Mark 33 red full name overglaze mark with the printed word "FRANCE", a backstamp used by Theodore Haviland from 1903 until 1925. Theodore Haviland, a brother of Charles Edward, and son of David Haviland, left the family company in 1892 and formed his own business operating under the name Theodore Haviland.
