The colors in this antique coverlet are just gorgeous - rich reds, greens, blues and mustard all worked on a linen colored ground, but the textile itself needs a loving home. Several holes are pictured along with a couple of hasty repairs, but the dynamic colors and dated signature of a professional Pennsylvania weaver make up for the life history. Personally, I'd back the holes with a heavy muslin, stabilize the tear edges, and leave the rest alone. Signed in two corners w it reads "Made by H or P Rassweiler Millersburg 1850", (no Pennsylvania is stitched, but that is the locale of both town and weaver.) It remains very clean, with no odors and only a few tiny (1/4" or less) brown spots on the back. (I'm not sure if it's an H or a P.in the signature, possibly Ph.) Another Millersburg piece can be seen on page 258 or 259 of " America 's Quilts and Coverlets" by Robert Bishop and Carleton Safford, w Rassweiler is also listed as a professional weaver. Size is approximately 85" by 71" . It has no center seam that I can see. The border is made of stylized oak leaves and tulips, while the rest of the pattern includes a small heart and snowflake type green design between the larger spoked wheels. Fresh and clean. Buyer to pay exact shipping guranteed not to exceed $10.00 in the lower 48, and will be less if actual is less. I accept paypal,
