Bautiful antique 19th century handmade Honiton lace tambour applique mantilla shawlA couple of weeks ago I sprinted around Scotland and Northern England, attending several auctions. The most exciting was perhaps an auction in Northumberland – the entire contents of a stately country mansion called The Hermitage. Time had stood still in this large Georgian house (I have posted a photograph of the house at the bottom of each listing of items acquired from this estate), and diaries and household accounts gave insight into a bygone age of spectacular house parties and entertaining on a grand scale. Amongst the treasures I am listing this week are several pieces of wonderful 19 th century wedding lace, ribbons, buttons etc, as well as some lovely Victorian costume items. I am working my way through the boxes, laundering, inspecting, photographing and listing! Do keep looking.....From The Hermitage... a beautiful, dainty black fine tulle lace shawl or mantilla with handmade Honiton lace appliques and edgings. Unusual to find black Honiton lace. The only damage I can spot are s few broken brides on two of the strawberry motifs (see second to last image) and some minuscule pulls to the tulle - no holes. It measures 267cm x 50cm. A lovely antique lace shawl or mantilla - so dainty.More photographs below See my other listings for more great read more
