This is a captivating Ambrotype of a beautiful African American lady. She is wearing a plaid dress with a white ruffled collar. The photo is one / sixth plate with dimensions of 2.75" x 3.25". Some of the black coating on the back has come off the back (it seems to have stuck to the back of the case). However, this does not distract from this fine portrait.The wooden, leather covered daguerreotype case is in nice vintage condition showing some wear from its advanced age. The ambrotype is encased with an elaborate preserver and a plain golden mat. The opposite side has a beautifully patterned velvet cushion that is a rose color (possibly faded from its original red or maroon?). The case has its original binding and metal clasp that still works. The lovely case is dark leather and decorated with an intricate swirl pattern.Please see pictures for details.
