These are a rare and collectable set of Indian bookends that will soon be 100 years old. This is the bronze clad "Indian Scout", which was produced in 1915 by National Metalizing Company, the predecessor to the Armor Bronze Company. Both bookends have the sculptor John Ruhl's name on the back and the date 1915. These 99 year-old bookends date back to the beginning of bronze clad bookends. National Metalizing Company and Kathodian Bronze were the two big players in the beginning of the era of bronze clad bookends. In 1918, when National Metalizing Company sold the assets of its metal products with the "Armor Bronze" finish, a new company - the Armor Bronze Company. This set of bookends was not produced by the new Armor Bronze Company. So these bookends have an "armor bronze" finish but they were made by the National Metalizing Company. Hence the are a very old and rare set of bookends. The photos show the actual colors. There are traces of red paint on both Indians. - see photos. Note that there is some wear to the cladding on the legs where the paster is exposed - see photos. It is not damage from being dropped or bumped.
