Antique Arts & Crafts Era Vantines NY Cast Metal Piece We dropped everything late this summer, and took a spur of the moment trip out to the “World’s Longest Garage Sale” which runs from FLA to OH all along Route 127. What a WONDERFUL trip! We treasure hunted all down the West side of Ohio, hit the Lincoln Highway sales in Indiana on the way back, and side-tracked to Shipshewana to catch some sales. You don’t want to miss this week’s listings - I have many many early antiques and primitives that I was lucky enough to find, and great stories to go with them from the super people that we met. This is only the second piece from Vantine's that I have ever sold - I just don't see them very much. I do believe that this may have been an incense burner that is missing its lid (because of the rim around the top), but it's still a beautiful piece of history as it is. Vantines - The Oriental Store, was located in NYC up until 1948 - importing many wonderful items from Asia. This piece is made out of case metal (not cast iron, a magnet does not stick to it) as many of their items were - but is still quite heavy for its size at 10 ounces. It measures 3" tall, 2 3/8" diameter across the top and 2 1/2" diameter at the bottom. The finish on it is brass, and it is beautiful, with only minor wear.
