This is a beautiful antique Arts and Crafts Impressionist handcarved gold metallic leaf oil painting frame made in the Newcomb Macklin and Foster Brothers period. The overall frame size measures 21 3/4 inches (55.25 cm) by 17 3/4 inches (45.1 cm)The back opening size is 16 1/8 inches (41 cm) by 12 1/8 inches (30.8 cm)The molding width is 3 inches (7.62 cm)This style was popular in the early 20th century.It's not actual gold gilt, but instead metallic gold leaf.But the color is just beautiful.It was definitely made by a skilled carver at a good studio.There are tiny pieces of the paint chipped off at various places on the frame.It also has a few light scratches and light stains on the front (please see photos), but I don't feel they take away from the integrity of the frame.On the back of the frame it says in pencil the number 14, 12 X 16, #9139, metal "something", ($) 20.00.Given its age, it's in very good condition and has developed a very nice patina.It's a real beauty!It weighs 1 lb. 15 oz.
