The autoharp was one of the most social or recreational group of musical instruments in the early 1900's. It was developed by C.F.Zimmerman in 1883 and was known as the "Zimmerman Autoharp" until trademarked as the "Autoharp". Its compact and portable but it can take the place of a piano in supplying accompaniment for singing or instrumental melody.It has been used to arouse interest, aid the action of the healing process of injured muscles and other forms of musical therapy. Its popularity does not come from these varied uses. It comes fromt he fact that it does not require musical knowledge or training nor long hours of practice. The simple instructions start you playing accompaniments at once. It does not even require the fingering of a guitar or ukelele. This antique autoharp is in great playing shape!
