Beautiful large size S ardonyx shell Cameo Brooch of Bacchante--the follower or nymph priestus of Bachus the Greek god of wine. This cameo is 19th Century--look carefully at features--the early 19th Century Italian or Greek Cameos typically featured adrogynous mythological figures--and this one though quite beautiful is adrogynous. The Bacchante has grape leaves and vines in her hair as is appropriate for a follower/priestess of Bacchus, the Greek god of wine. The piece is a shell cameo, and I have tried to show in the photos of the back to show that there is no damage, no cracks in the shell. This shell is a gorgeous cameo carved by a master, and a Bacchante in addition. What a wonderful cameo to add to your cameo or vintage fine jewelry collection or to gift to a loved one during the coming holiday season! This one should have a value of approximately $1,900 but I'm going to begin low and hope that the winning bid is fair to both seller and buyer!
