A beautiful unique early 1900's sewing basket/purse. The bottom is a wicker basket that has a gatd drawstring pouch attached to the top of it made from pale pink satin. The basket is all original and just lovely. It is painted cream and decorated with pink roses, blue forget-me-nots and pale lavender floral garlands around the entire basket. In addition, t are three pale pink barbola formed ribbons. In my pictures I show every possible view of the sides of the basket. T is only one 1/2" portion of the barbola missing as shown in my last photo. The rest of the barbola work has typical cracks but is very sturdy. Gesso work is extremely detailed and does have wear on the edges of the flowers giving it a nice patina. The basket measures 8 1/8" in diameter and stands 2 1/2" high. The pink pouch is sewn on (you can see the pink stitches around the top edge of the wicker) and would be easy enough to remove if you don't like the way it looks. Satin has some light brown stains and age discoloration and t but is in good condition overall. The top edge of the bag that houses the drawstring has come loose on a 2" portion. This would be easy enough to re-attach if you should wish. I have photographed this with tissue paper inside so that you can see what it would look like if filled with goodies. A charming, unique barbola basket!Vintage and read more
