3 DAY AUCTION! ~RARE Antique Basket from Native American Indian Auction~RARE FIND! We acquired this basket about 6 months ago from a very special auction that was held in Central New York - this auction was the best auction that we have ever gone to in our entire lives, and the money folks were spending was unbelieveable - they had a Native Amerian Pueblo Indian Pot that sold for over ten thousand dollars and many items sold for thousands & thousands of dollars - the auction was literally jam packed with the very finest and rarest genuine antique Native American Indian & Civil War items that we have ever seen - the auction house was auctioning off the entire contents of a large museum which contained the rarest Native American & Civil War items imaginable - the auctioneer stated at the start of the auction that the gentleman who owned the museum was going into retirement and he had finally decided to sell the entire contents of his museum - he promised the auctioneer many years ago that when he was ready to retire, that he would let him do the auction for him and the retired gentleman had kept his word. ----- This is one of the items that we had purchased from this auction - we purchased several old relics towards the end of the auction, w we finally had a few opportunities to get some things and now we are selling them on ebay. We do not specialize in antique Native American Indian or Civil War items so you will have to view all of our photos below to see exactly what you are bidding on and you will probably find some very rare treasures - the auctioneer represented this basket as North Eastern Native American Indian and he said possibly Mohawk or one of the tribes from the North Eastern Territories - we had never taken the time to personally research these items at the library and we believe that you folks who specialize in these things will know exactly what they are so please view all of the photos below closely (we try our best to take good clear photos so that you know what you are getting) - this is an amazing looking antique basket to say the very least - mid-sized and lots of tedious hand work went into making this - it looks somewhat like an early Nantucket Lightship style basket but we were told it is Native American and we really have no clue as to its precise Provenance and we are only stating what we were told by the auctioneer (incidently, the auctioneer is a very good man whom we have known for many years and who treats people with high regards and he would never intentionally mislead anyone, nor would we and we only try to do the very best we can) - it is on of the most beautiful old baskets that we have ever handled besides a larger one like it that can be viewed at our other ebay auctions - we personally believe it is well over 100 years old - a beautifully shaped basket - old and original - beautiful innerwoven and braided genuine black ash strapping going around the sides and the rim - other areas look like maybe split tree branches and other field grass?, that may have been all hand dyed ?? - a slightly thicker bentwood branch going around the rim neck to give the basket more strength and other woven areas all made from natures offerings - this is certainly all hand made and it belongs right back in a museum - no man made materials were used in this basket - we hope that some of you can see the amazing quality of this antique basket - only a few small areas with minor breakage (only two missing sticks near one of the corners of the backet rim that detract little overall and if you are handy you could replace them with something similar looking and it would be a beauty - we also know that it is extremely old because it is quite light in weight and it must have been much heavier when it was first freshly made well over 100 years ago - amazing age patina all original - it has a beautiful round woven handle on each side - this item needs to be handled with care because it is very primitive in age and quite brittle from old age but good and solid - just look closely at all of the am... read more
