Up for sale is an old 1889 Brazilian Army saber. It looks to my untrained eye to be an infantry sword, but who knows? These are much less common than the plain Brazilian Cav sabers with "E.U.B." on the bowl. This one has ribbed brass scales as a grip and has a lacquered bowl guard with a very nice Brazilian crest on the front. The blade is fullered, unsharpened, and in pretty decent shape - there's a smattering of black rust spots up and down the blade. It wouldn't be difficult to restore. The scabbard is steel and painted black, which is apparently how it originally came. These are hard to find, and the value is very subjective, but they sell for more than a hundred over my asking price on IMA-USA. It is a fantastic piece of history from the now-defunct First Brazilian Republic.Feel free to request measurements or more pictures.
