This is a pair of bronze bookends by G. H. Laurent. He was a French artist that worked during the 1920's and 1930's. His sculptures have brought large prices at Christies auctions. These owls are both signed and have 160 and 161 under their tails. They are heavy and their marble bases have some corner chips on them. The chest of 160 has a mark on his lower chest. This is the one with the chips on the corner of the marble. Maybe this one fell or tipped at one time. These came from an old estate Iowa auction of a Drake University professor. Good luck and take a good look I don't usually sell bronze.
