Simply wonderful brown transferware 10 1/2 inch plate. The mark on the back is not very clear, but the pattern is Syria. According to Schiffer Encyclopedia of Marks, the best I can come up with is R. Cockran & Company, who made china in Glasgow Scotland in 1846. I am by far no expert on china, but believe this is what is commonly referred to as soft paste. T are no chips, cracks or hairlines. T is a little bit of staining around the center design and slight rough spots on the edge. The design features 4 girls and a man in what appears to be a scene of the girls being taught. T are buildings, mountains, trees and I believe a large cathedral in the background. The design around the edge features 3 sets of flowers and 3 sets of a building with palm trees behind it. This plate would make an incredible addition to any transferware or ironstone collection. I really is a beauty. Insurance is required and packing and shipping to anyw in the United States for a flat fee of $10.00. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.
