Antique Cheese Dish Gorgeous Made in England The following is provided as general information. Special dishes for serving cheese sere introduced in England at the end of the 18 th century. Early ones had tall cylindrical covers that were ideal for covering Stilton cheese. The covers kept the cheese from drying out, and also kept the aroma confined to the dish. The wedge-shaped design, which was useful for other kinds of cheese, became popular in the late 19 th century. Up for auction is a delightful item with the scene of an old farm house on one side and the other side has what looks like a hay stack and a barn. On the bottom of the tray it indicates "Made in England . Also stamped on the bottom It has "Autumn Cottage" which must be the pattern designation. It also has another stamp which I cannot read. The tray has a small chip ( approx. ¼ inch) on the rim. It has heavy crazing but no cracks. It is really in good condition given the age. ~PLEASE READ ALL DESCRIPTION AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION BEFORE BIDDING. ~~ Thank you for viewing our items. We have many interesting items listed .
